Maria I fulfilled a vow through building
as late Baroque met Neoclassicism.
The basilica and Carmelite convent arose from Maria I's royal vow, with designs by Mateus Vicente de Oliveira and Reinaldo Manuel. It keeps the tombs of the queen and her confessor and has been a National Monument since 1910.
