01 / BUILDING HISTORYFACTS BEFORE INTERPRETATION
Reconstruction rebuilt naval capacity
and the building's length served its process.
After 1755, the Marquis of Pombal promoted a ropeworks for the naval arsenal. In 1775 the works directed by António Baptista de Sá began operating by Junqueira beach; two parallel wings about 353 metres long supported continuous rope-making.
