01 / Building stories

One building, the roots of everyday life.

Relocated from Egypt, the temple opened to the public in Madrid in 1972. Its surrounding cityscape is not its original setting.

Xiaoxiong suggests looking first at a joint between stones, then at the sky framed by a doorway. Do you notice what the building brought with it, or what now surrounds it? This question cannot replace documentation of its origins and relocation.

What to look for on site

Compare two openings from an authorised viewing position. Notice the landscape they frame without crossing barriers for a better angle.

Lü · Visiting with care

Lü reminds us that a visitor belongs to a place only briefly and should learn its rules. This contemporary reading is separate from the temple's religious history.

Read the figure first

A brief stay meets the continuity of local life. Lü brings care to looking: understand conditions of entry, leave room for work and recognise that one visit cannot represent a whole way of life.

Original text and context

The excerpt gives a natural image from the classic. Its application to this building is Xiaoxiong's contemporary proposal, not architectural intent or evidence of historical influence.

Take it into daily life

In an unfamiliar place, do you first seek something familiar or try to understand its boundaries?

A question for the Bench

Which observation would you take away, and what would you leave in place?

Cultural reading, not divination. The connection is editorial and does not establish historical I Ching influence.

03 / Nearby life

Step outside and find a table nearby.

Dining map records within three kilometres in a straight line of the reference point. Walls, railways and slopes may lengthen the journey. Check the entrance and whether the business is open.

The map may omit businesses. Records do not confirm trading status, menus or bookings. Records with an address are shown by default; you can include the others.
