01 / Building stories

Read a building, discover a way of living.

The bridge over the Sever and nearby tower connect passage with control. Official information dates the present bridge to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries; the familiar name “Roman bridge” does not prove an intact Roman structure.

From an accessible bank, observe arches, piers and water. Crossing connects places but has also involved tolls and checks: who could pass, and under what conditions?

What to notice

Observe from open paths or the bridge while leaving room for others; keep away from banks in high water or slippery conditions.

02 / I Ching reflections

Tongren · Make room to meet

Tongren helps us observe the conditions of shared life. Squares and halls bring different people together without making them the same. Clear entrances, comfortable waiting and care for different users are practical questions.

Start with the architecture

Tongren needs real conditions of passage. Joining banks is not enough: people must be able to arrive. Ask who may still struggle with today’s access, information and rules.

Bring the question into everyday life

Leave room for an encounter today: clear a passage, listen without answering immediately or offer a seat. Shared space is also made through such small actions.

Try an observation here

Pause, record one observed detail and respond to the question below. Notes can hold doubts and different opinions; leave out other people’s private information.

What could make a connection genuinely usable by more people?

A contemporary cultural reading by Xiaoxiong inspired by the I Ching. The connection with the building is an editorial perspective, not the architect’s intention or a documented historical influence. It is not fortune-telling.

03 / Nearby life

A nearby table

Dining map records within three kilometres in a straight line of the reference point. Walls, railways and slopes may lengthen the journey. Check the entrance and whether the business is open.

This selection covers the current municipality. Near hills, rivers and municipal boundaries, plan transport using actual roads.

The map may omit businesses. Records do not confirm trading status, menus or bookings. Records with an address are shown by default; you can include the others.
