The story of this place

Founded in 1403, Corroios mill was expanded and repaired across different periods, including after the earthquake. It opened as an ecomuseum site in 1986. Its story spans production and preservation; the current temporary-closure notice should guide visit planning. In 1404, Nuno Álvares Pereira donated the mill to the Carmo convent. Reopened in 2009, it continued to interpret industrial memory. Its current temporary closure means visits must be reconfirmed.

What to look for

Understand the relationship between reservoir and mill. Do not plan on immediate interior access; confirm reopening with the ecomuseum.

Endurance

Heng connects endurance with care. Repairs, changes of use and closures belong to conservation's timescale. Demanding permanent operation for visitors may undermine survival. Lasting continuity includes necessary pauses.
