Praia do Abano, Forte do Guincho, Cascais · Plan an exterior view; interior access is not guaranteed. Respect barriers and cliffs and follow established paths.
Built in 1642, the fort watched for landings at Guincho and Abano and communicated visually with other defences. It separated quarters from the artillery platform. In the late nineteenth century it was altered because of possible collapse of its rocky base.

Guan questions the observer’s position. From the fort one saw landing risks; from the beach, a barrier. The landscape deserves more than one viewpoint.
