01 / Building stories

Read a building, discover a way of living.

The municipal archive links this fortified residence’s origins to a family estate established in 1442. It combined living and defence: square crenellated towers and a position overlooking movement on river and land. Behind the image of a castle were rooms and a kitchen.

Changes followed in the seventeenth century; abandonment in the eighteenth led to deterioration. Compare tower outlines with domestic traces such as the northern chimney. A municipal exhibition space operates here; admission and maintenance follow current arrangements. View closed parts only from permitted public areas.

What to notice

Compare towers, walls and chimney from public space, looking for domestic and defensive clues. Confirm exhibition opening first.

02 / I Ching reflections

Gen · Pause to recognise what remains

A ruin presents surviving parts. Gaps also belong to understanding: identifying evidence allows cautious imagination of the past.

Start with the architecture

Towers catch attention, but the chimney brings it back to habitation. Comparing them moves beyond a generic castle image. Record visible materials and positions; use the archive to investigate vanished rooms and activities.

Bring the question into everyday life

In haste, a familiar name can replace observation: tower becomes war, palace becomes luxury. Find a detail that challenges the first impression. Try the same with a complex situation by identifying what you have not yet seen.

Try an observation here

Record one visible component and one unanswered question, keeping observation separate from imagination.

When has stopping revealed an important detail you had missed?

A contemporary cultural reading by Xiaoxiong inspired by the I Ching. The connection with the building is an editorial perspective, not the architect’s intention or a documented historical influence. It is not fortune-telling.

03 / Nearby life

Dining map records within three kilometres in a straight line of the reference point. Walls, railways and slopes may lengthen the journey. Check the entrance and whether the business is open.

The map may omit businesses. Records do not confirm trading status, menus or bookings. Records with an address are shown by default; you can include the others.
