01 / Building stories
Read a building, discover a way of living.
This burial monument of large limestone blocks extends the city’s timescale into prehistory. The municipal guide describes a chamber and short southwest-facing passage, placing its use between the late Neolithic and Chalcolithic. Carlos Ribeiro identified the site in 1875.
The surrounding urban park opened in 2018. Contemporary leisure now shares the landscape with an ancient place of collective burial. The remains provide only partial evidence and cannot fully reconstruct the beliefs or rituals of those who used it.
What to notice
Compare stones, ground and passage from authorised paths and read the site information. Do not climb the stones or enter fenced areas.
Gen suggests stopping appropriately. Faced with time far beyond one lifetime, we can slow down and leave the distance needed for conservation.
Start with the architecture
Stones and passage retain structural clues, but the original whole is no longer visible. Archaeology and interpretation panels add understanding; imagination needs limits. Paths and barriers allow access while leaving room for preservation.
Bring the question into everyday life
A pause can sharpen attention and keep action within what a place can bear. Giving an important decision a night or a meeting a few minutes also matters. Things worth keeping often require patience.
Try an observation here
Before taking a photograph, look quietly for one minute. Record one visible detail and one unanswered question.
Seen over a longer timescale, what is worth leaving from today?
A contemporary cultural reading by Xiaoxiong inspired by the I Ching. The connection with the building is an editorial perspective, not the architect’s intention or a documented historical influence. It is not fortune-telling.

Dining map records within three kilometres in a straight line of the reference point. Walls, railways and slopes may lengthen the journey. Check the entrance and whether the business is open.
The map may omit businesses. Records do not confirm trading status, menus or bookings. Records with an address are shown by default; you can include the others.
