A market is made by the people who use it: stalls, shopping and conversation share one space. Construction began in 1914, to a design by António Correia da Silva; the first shops went to tender in 1915. Reopening in 2022 restored everyday trading to the building.

Thunder at the foot of the mountain: nourishment. The noble person is careful with words and moderate in eating and drinking.
Yi's references to food and speech begin this reading. We consider people and labour behind the produce, not dietary health or morality judged through a hexagram.
Restoration and reopening belong to the building's timeline; traders and customers make it a market each day. Attractive architecture does not replace this living activity.
Care in speech prompts us to ask before photographing and to respect work and refusal. Conversation is not an experience other people owe us.
