01 / How this building reached the present
Fire destroyed the earlier theatre in 1908. The present building opened on 7 March 1920, bringing the city’s stage back to this site.
The first theatre opened in 1798. After fire and rebuilding, the site continued to gather audiences. Notice the relationship between entrance and square as people arrive and leave.
